Discover the Majestic Marionia arborescens at The Three P Beach Resort
The Marionia arborescens is one of the most spectacular nudibranchs you can encounter while scuba diving in Romblon, Philippines. Living up to its name “arborescens” (meaning tree-like), this remarkable sea slug features an intricate array of branching cerata that resembles a miniature underwater forest, making it a prized subject for underwater photography enthusiasts visiting our dive resort.
This impressive nudibranch can grow up to 10 centimeters in length, making it one of the larger species you might encounter during your dives. Its most striking feature is its tree-like appendages, which are typically colored in stunning combinations of brown, white, and orange. The intricate patterns and textures of its body make it a particularly rewarding subject for macro photography, especially when captured against the blue waters of our dive sites.
At The Three P Beach Resort, our experienced dive guides frequently spot these magnificent creatures in areas with rich soft coral growth, particularly gorgonian sea fans, which serve as both their habitat and food source. This close association with soft corals provides photographers with excellent opportunities to capture not just the nudibranch itself, but also its natural behavior and habitat interactions.
You’re most likely to encounter Marionia arborescens during scuba diving sessions at depths between 15-30 meters, making it an exciting find for divers comfortable with deeper profiles. While they can be found year-round in Romblon’s waters, these nudibranchs are most active during early morning dives, when conditions are often optimal for photography.
The presence of Marionia arborescens in our waters highlights the exceptional marine biodiversity that makes Romblon a premier destination for nudibranch enthusiasts and underwater photographers. Whether you’re an experienced diver seeking to document these remarkable creatures or a marine life enthusiast eager to observe their behavior, our dive resort provides the perfect base for encountering these magnificent sea slugs.
