An Elusive White Mantle: Glossodoris buko
Glossodoris buko is a relatively new species of nudibranch, described in 2018. It’s often referred to as the White Mantle Glossodoris due to its distinctive appearance.
Unlike many of its colorful cousins, Glossodoris buko is characterized by its understated elegance. Its body is predominantly transparent white, with an opaque white band running along the mantle. This band narrows between the rhinophores (sensory organs) and widens around the gills. The overall effect is one of delicate simplicity.
Spotting a Glossodoris buko underwater can be quite a challenge. Its pale coloration blends seamlessly with the surrounding environment, making it easy to overlook. However, for those lucky enough to find one, the experience is truly rewarding. Our experienced spotters will help you to find These rare nudibranchs among many other special species here in Romblon Island.
While the exact distribution of Glossodoris buko is still being studied, it has been observed in locations such as Indonesia, the Philippines, and Papua New Guinea. If you’re an avid nudibranch enthusiast exploring these waters, keep a sharp eye out for this elusive creature.
