For scuba divers and underwater macro photographers exploring the reefs of Romblon Island, Philippines, a dazzling encounter awaits. The vibrant yellow nudibranch, known as Diversidoris crocea (previously known as Noumea crocea), adds a burst of sunshine to the underwater world.

This little sea slug, typically reaching a length of around five centimeters, embodies sunshine itself. Its entire body, including the frilled appendages called gills and the sensory rhinophores on its head, is a brilliant yellow. The only splash of contrast comes from a thin white band around the edge of its foot, occasionally punctuated by a single, semi-permanent fold on either side.

This bright coloration isn’t just for show. The yellow hue acts as camouflage, allowing the Diversidoris crocea to blend seamlessly with its favorite food source – yellow sponges.

These delightful nudibranchs are a captivating sight for divers and underwater photographers with an eye for detail. So, on your next underwater adventure in Romblon, keep an eye out for this sunshine-colored marvel gracing the reefs.
